Donald European Champion 2017

Donald recently took part in the European Triathlon Championships held in Kitzbuhel, Austria. Donald had qualified to represent his age group at this event as part of the Great Britain Age Group Team.

Over the weekend of the 17th & 18th June some 309 British Age Group triathletes, alongside their European counterparts, battled the Olympic distance course (1.5km swim, 42km bike & 10km run) all in the hope of collecting an elusive European title.

With a total field of approximately 850 competitors the swim took place in spectacular lake Schwarzsee, with a challenging bike course consisting of three loops that took in the alpine scenery, followed by an undulating run course, finishing under the gantry on the famous blue carpet.

Donald put in a strong performance on the swim to come out of the water in 2nd position within his ultra-competitive age group, he then took the lead out on the bike course which he maintained throughout the remainder of the race to finish in a time of 2:03:01 nearly one and a half minutes ahead of second place, claiming the gold medal and European Championship title, an upgrade from the silver he won in Lisbon in 2016. This secured the 3rd fastest time of the day and the quickest British athlete.
